Another Black IPA in the go.

I got the speciality grains for this a couple of months ago but never got round to brewing for ages.

10L @ 77 strike temp, mash temp sitting at 67.

2.4kg pale malt
800g Vienna
500g Flaked Oats
400g Torrified wheat

I also cold steeped
400g Carafa Special 3 in 2 L of cold water, to see what difference that makes compared to mashing it.

Hops will be
50g Chinook @ 60mins
20g Chinook @ 15mins
20g Azacca @ 15mins
20g Galena @ 15mins

Mash is nearly done, hoping for a fairly full 15L pot after sparse the grain bag in my Jerry-rigged setup.

Hi ceejam, I used some carafe 3 the other week in a dark mild 200g in a 19l batch it was like squid ink, tried a bottle the other day it was very nice, has a nutty flavour but that's more like the roasted barley than carafe, let us know if the cold steep makes any difference

Two weeks at 19 degrees C and it’s fermented right out to 1.008 from 1.042.

Quite happy with it - just need to dry hop for a few days and bottle perhaps Wednesday or Thursday evening.
