Hey all,

We are trying to get rid of our mash tuns as taking up too much space.

50% Off Mash tun 42l

Round/Orange

Stainless Steel Tap

Hop Strainer

The Mash tun is 54 cm high ( including lid ) and 39cm wide approx
This will hold approx 42 ltrs, Which should be around 13kg max grain

Sorely tempted by this, reckon this would be just the right tool for the job of getting a RIS on the go for Christmas

I use something similar for sparging. Heat all my water up to mash temperature and then transfer to this as I have no way of heating up more water. Attach a hose to the tap and sparge away.

Just ordered one 😀

Have you got a decent RIS recipe you’d be happy share?
Not my recipe but I will be brewing something similar

This beer came first in the porter and stout category in this year's Irish NHC competition with a score of 43. It's probably the only good stout I've ever made, though not for lack of trying! It's a pretty big beer and so it really needs plenty of aging time to mellow out. There is a lot of roasted barley in this but don't worry, the high FG and residual sweetness help to balance it out. One thing to make sure of is to pitch big, I made a small batch of mild first then used the full yeast cake for this and it really exploded out of the FV which is always a good sign!

Looks great, thanks 👍🏻
What yeast did you use?

What yeast did you use?
Yeast most people go with a neutral yeast and one capable of high abv. personally I would use a yeast cake from a previous brew. One that you have not dry hopped, I will be using WLP 540.

Tempted by this, it would make things a touch easier but it's another thing to clean! 😬

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.
I bought one so I could do a full volume mash with normal strength beers. Plus it will give me the space to brew an imperial stout. Currently I am using biab, anything above 6kg of grain I struggle

I'll sleep on it...

Does anyone know how well it keeps its temp?
I suspect it'll be good once the usual coolbox/drinks cooler weak spot it is corrected. The lids tend to be hollow and benefit from filling with expanding foam or perlite granules. My 19L Igloo one was like this, a small bag of perlite from B&Q did the trick.

I brewed using the new mash tun. It's bigger than I imagined. Holds temp well, easy cleaned. I was able to carry out a full volume mash and mash out with no sparge.
The big test will be next week when I brew the imperial stout
