Im planning on making my first cooler type mash tun and am just wondering whet you guys thought was the better design. I want to get the colemans 36 quart cool box but dont no whether to build one of the copper manifolds or buy 2 bazooka screens and T them off of the ball valve. Taking into mash efficiency and how fine I will be able to crush the grain im not sure which way to go.

I am also thinking about making my own mash tun using a bazooka screen (because I don't know if I am capable of making a copper manifold). Is there any disadvantage in doing so i.e. I like the odd wheat beer, will I get a stuck mash?

Quite often the bazooka screen type of filters can collapse under the weight of the grain meaning the wort won't flow out.

You can reinforce them with a coil inside the screens if you decide to go that route.

I recommend the cooper manifold for ease. Mine took next to no time to make. Moving onwards you're better in the longterm with a false bottom.

You can use a hacksaw can't you Jim, there's no soldering involved, they just push fit together, easier for cleaning ;)
