I wish to make 200 litre batches of beer what size mash tun do I need.

rough calculations below:-

Batch Size (L): 200
Original Gravity 1.050
Total water required (L): 313.82

Total Grain (kg) 50
Water to grain ratio (L/kg) 3
Strike water (L) 150

Sparge Water 163.82

Wort volume before boil 268.80

evaportation 15%

Wort volume after boil: 208.3

After cooling (4% loss) 200

I was going for a calculated guess of 300 litres....

Everything is right until you got to the mash tun size which is most always smaller than the boil volume ;)

By my working you need 164ltr for that kind of brew and that is a 6.5% brew

Still awaiting a price from my supplier ;)

for the worse case scenario I have worked on 65% effiency.

I know it will be 75 - 80 %

cheers Muddy the setup will be :-

400 Litre HLT
200 Litre MT - 70 litre underback
300 Litre Copper
300 Litre Fermenter

thanks for your all your help.

John
