Could someone explain this one to me? Because the way the terms are used sometimes, it sounds like they are two different things? But surely no one would transfer the mash from a mash tun to a lauter tun for sparging?!? Wouldn't it cause an awful lot of hot side oxidation? Or am I on the wrong track altogether?

A mash tun is to mash in a lauter tun is to sparge in only the massive brewerys have seperate tanks us homebrewers.microbrewers using mash/lauter tun which has a false bottom so only one tun is needed.

In my early days of AG brewing I used Dave Line's "floating mash tun".
Because of my boiler size the MT couldn't have a tap, so I had to transfer to a lauter tun for sparging!
This is now a thing of the past. :D
