Hi People.

It's a long time since I've mashed any beer and cannot remember how long it took from mash to glass.

Please could you let me know what you think.

I would brew a real ale, something out of one of Graham Wheelers books probably.

Regards

welcome back! this is about as close as you want to cut it, so brew something moderately low strength (4% and below if possible) and it should be drinkable by xmas :thumb:

If you get one on today a low abv then it should be ready to drink by Xmas but still a little young usually around 10 days to ferment then a week to condition in the warm then a couple of weeks to clear up

Wow, what quick replies, thanks guys.

I certainly wouldn't be able to make it today, weekend would be earliest, probably shopping for ingredients Saturday, brewing Sunday. Mmm, maybe not ready for christmas then.

Cheers

I've got a couple of brews in the garage been maturing now for 3 weeks, usually getting ready to drink. However due to the colder temperatures due to winter I'm finding they are still very flat. So its something to bear in mind...they take longer at this time of year. Ones in airing cupboard are fine

Guess its time I looked towards some sort of heated cabinet/box to hold a brews length of bottles in to condition... or an old fridge with heater

I used to have a wardrobe in my garage insulated with polystyrene and a 100 W bulb wired to a thermostat.

When it got too cold the bulb used to come on and it warmed the inside of the cabinet as it warmed up in there it used to go out. Good cheapish solution that seemed to work well.
