Evening all,
Went on a micro brewery visit last week :D , whilst on holiday and was told ;) that mashing and boiling each take 1 hour.
Now I have heard of reduced times from the "normal hour and a half" and was already getting ideas of reducing my times, but what times are being used out there ?
Is it a goer to save an hour per brew day ;)

I have always Mashed for 90 mins ! Probably because that's what I have read and learnt from guys on this forum ! I boil for a minimum of 60 mins! However, I used to always boil for 90 mins but after experimenting I found no difference in boiling the extra 30 mins! The hot break was achieved and my beers cleared just the same!
Let see what others do

I mash for 90mins cos it gives me time to read the paper and have a bacon sarnie, and I boil the hops for 60mins after the hot break.

I used to mash for 3 hrs and boil for 2 hrs, but the Forum showed me the error of my ways.
I now both mash and boil for 1 hr each!

It depends on the beers . . . Standard beers get 90/90 . . . strong beers can get 120/180 or longer. . . . and if I have anything else to do then even a standard beer can get up to 180 for a mash

Think i've read it on threads that you can mash over night for around 8 hours or more and sparge in the morning :hmm:

I'm with Aleman, I mash for a minimum of 90 minutes and higher gravity beers may be boiled for 2 hours or more.
Of course my hop utilisation calcuations are always based on the boil time.
Plus let's not forget that this is a hobby, no need to rush things ;-)

Once again the forum has the answer..........s :D
All good points there, think I will try and notch it down a bit. It is a hobby and bacon sandwiches noted :D
Thanks all for comments
