Malt Miller now using DHL?

My last order from Malt Miller a week ago came via DHL. They gave me a one hour time slot. Three quarters of an hour before the hour time slot started, at an awkward moment for me, the doorbell went. I managed to get to see the driver was about to drive off. He said the parcel was behind the bins. I asked the driver why he was early and he told me he was trying to beat the heat!

I've always liked the DPD app that shows you exactly where the van is. In a rural location line where I live, it gives a good idea when they will get to you.

DHL aren't so good round here.

Had my shiny new kettle among other stuff totalling over 200 quid delivered on Wednesday from MM via DHL. As I wasn't going to be in at the time specified, I arranged for it to be delivered on Thursday via the link they sent. I returned home on Wednesday to find a massive box sitting outside my house in full view which had just been left by DHL. The email I got later stated it had been "accepted by me". Not too happy, but luckily it was still there when I got back.

I find DPD like to smash up the parcels, I think the staff have a sledge hammer which they have a go at. DHL have been much better for us too.

Just to balance it up I have had loads of parcels from DPD and never had a problem with their system and in good condition. The only complaint is from the drivers about weight

I think it's all very area-specific.

I can't fault my local DPD delivery driver. He is by far the friendliest and most helpful of the bunch and I've never had an issue with a parcel he has delivered.

Can't actually remember the last time I received anything from DHL so can't necessarily say how they compare. EVRi (previously Hermes) and Royal Mail on the other hand are pretty poor in comparison.

I work from home now but my last job was in a DHL warehouse (bloody hard work but I loved it!). I've also worked for Hermes.

Let me tell you this - it doesn't matter which company delivers it - the warehouse workers are always drowning in parcels and you have to often move them out of the way very quickly to make room for more, so they do get knocked about and it can't be helped.

Today I received notice at 7:30 from DHL they were going to deliver between 14:19 and 15:19. 15:30 came and I checked the link they sent me to track the parcel, it remained stubbornly at delivery 22/68 for the next 2 hours, I did see it increase around 18:00... now the app tells me they are going to deliver on Monday. They have not emailed me or sent me a text to tell me to confirm, very bad customer service.

All my previous deliveries were through DPD, I could not have been more happy with their ability to tell me when they were going to deliver, and then just deliver, exactly what I want with a delivery.

Awful service, if they do not deliver on time they should be penalised you may have taken the day off especially if the item was bulky and now its wasted and you are going to have to take another and hope they manage to deliver this time.

My beef with DPD is that on two occasions they returned my parcel to the supplier as there was "no one in". The first time, I was in all day and for most of it sitting in the front room with a good view of the road. The second time, spouse was due to be in but had to go out for one and a half hours for work reasons. This implies that, if they called at all, two abortive visits within 90 minutes is enough justification to send it back. Not fit for purpose, in my view. I now deliberately avoid buying off any company that uses them.

The email said it would be here between 1518 and 1618: it arrived at 1420 and would have been left on the doorstep if I hadn't caught the driver and asked him to put it inside the front door. Here (southern edge of Gloucestershire) and where we lived before (north Herefordshire), DPD are very much better.

Never had a problem with DPD maybe the MM should give us an option who we want to use.

Part of the problem is that pricing on shipping contracts tends to be based on volume I.e. you ship x volume with us you get x discount on the list price hence unless you are absolutely huge there is a very big incentive to stick with one courier.

That being said locally at least I far prefer DPD most of the time when I order from Malt Miller it is down to wanting liquid yeast and especially in the summer months I do not want a package sitting on the door step for hours because the courier didn’t deliver in the time slot they said they would and I’m not in. DPD in my area always seem to deliver within the time slot meaning I can ensure I am in which is part of the reason I use Malt Miller over other home brew suppliers when buying liquid.

Had a delivery from keg that 2 all grain kits, ordered on 28/6/22 arrived 6/7/22 via DHL the delay was not dhl's fault and was sorted by keg that, the package arrived 3 hours early and was badly damaged the kits were intact, but i will think twice before using a company who uses dhl i have never had a problem with dpd

I had two deliveries from the Wine Society last year which went wrong. The first one they broke 3 of the bottles in a case of 6 and were meant to be re-packaging the remainder. Eventually informed that they had broken them all - annoying as it was a bin end and not replaceable.

Second one delivered to the next door house, which has security gates and they were away for the weekend. I could see the box sitting in their porch all weekend.

I won't place an order with The Wine Society now, unless it can be delivered via their own van. And I won't order anything from Malt Miller unless I can specify DPD.

I think it varies from area to area (and probably from driver to driver) but it is very rare for a DHL delivery to work out ok here.

DPD all the way for me always within the time slot, never had a problem. I think it will be about price but it is us the customers who are paying that and I would pay a little more for DPD above DHL
