Joking aside i don't have a scanner on my phone as i have no use for one, why should i have to install an app i don't want just to get some info that i do?

Don't confuse whining with just being pi**ed off at another unnecessary change to the way things have always been done. There cannot be another HB supplier on the planet who does not put AA on the packet. If hops were classed as food (which they are in a way) MM would be in breach of legal requirements.

I really don't see why MM can't have a QR code (if that's what they want for stock management) and print on the packet what we care about as brewers as well i.e. the year of harvest/AA%.. its like its a deliberate effort to force people to hit the MM website more often to drive up traffic etc.

The other issue is what if the site goes offline temporarily (or permanently!)? Not suggesting they are in danger of shutting down, but as ever with online information, they are only as good for as long as someone is paying the hosting costs and the hosting provider is online.

As someone said above, imho, this has just created another step for brewers to have to QR the hops and sharpie the information on bags when they land from MM before sticking them in the fridge/freezer

I think I'll write the info on the packet...I also do this with the remaining weight if I split a pack. All well and good but if the info doesn't scan what are we to do? Mess about emailing or calling to get the info. Will the in fo be correct?

As I have said they should do both, if they want to use technology it is fine but we need to see at a glance what we have not having to Pfaff. I regular go to my fridge see what I have especially to do a user up and need to see at a glance. What next QR code the name of the hops and weight too?

Exactly, totally agree.. A QR code is great for extended, non critical information that might appeal to pro-brewers like batch numbers, traceability and other growing/processing information that is made available in due course (assuming MM are going to build on this a bit), but print the basics on the package that we need to see at a glance which to me is year/AA.

QR codes are used for marketing as well as being a 'benefit' to the consumer, by scanning a QR code to access a website, the website has captured your device information and can trace this back to point of sale. This benefits the manufacturer by tracing sales for statistical analysis, as always with these things it will erode your privacy by linking your mobile device to your identity and ultimately your spending habits, carbon footprint etc ...

I don't order hops from MM but wouldn't have an issue with others doing to same. I only look at the packet once. I then update my inventory on my brewing software and the data is there until I fully use the packet, usually the next brew.

Order you hops elsewhere. TMM wil soon get the message. They're grossly overpriced in any case. Cheapest overall is HBC, but they don't stock some obscure vairieties like Nectaron so £9.75 at MM and £7.95 at CML. I haven't been back to MM for years- they're nothing special.
Edit Citra MM £7.95, HBC £6.95. N. Sauvin MM £7.75, HBC £5.95.
Don't forget to factor in free ostage at CML.
