Hello all!

I have just returned from local HB shop (in Stockport) to buy this months supply of brewing 'stuff'. I fancied doing accouple of wheat beers in particular alemans erdinger clone. However they had run out of: wheat malt, torrified wheat, pale malt, saaz hops! That bugged te next 2 planned brews!

Those of you with out the luxury of a close to hand HHS where do you get your grain? I need an order of around 10kg but I can freeze larger amounts. Help else there will only be extract beers for Xmas!

I get all my hops and grain from the Malt Miller. He has everything in stock you need.

Superb service and quality of ingredients.

Click on the link at the top of the page.

Well that sounds good to me. How much is delivery normally. Malt miller is considerably cheaper than my LHBS! (unless it's £20 delivery charge!).

Obviously, carriage costs have to be factored into the price of your grain, but Malt Miller's carriage charge is £7.50 for up to 30kg to most of mainland UK, so that could be a sack of pale plus some other grains or an assortment of hops.

Robs spot on you won't go wrong, top quality stuff and good prices.

I know the LHBS you are talking about, Top dollar on everything hit and miss on supplies at times, & they will not listen to anyone, they know best.

I do enjoy popping in once in a while though as they are great characters, however I don't buy much because they are far too expensive.

I used to live litteraly behind the shop so I used to pop in about 3 times a week. Now its a bus ride (delivery charge?).

Its true they are proper characters, esp when they are both there! The wealth of knowledge is pretty good tho (before I found the forum!)! I dont mind paying afew quid more for kits or equipment if I know that I can return the same day if broken or come back for knowledge (and support a local business).

The point remains that the grain is so-so and not there when I want it, so I will prob use the malt millers.. but I will still be going to thebrewshop.co.uk for bits and pieces rather than using cheaper internet suppliers just because its face to face and thats what I like.

Thank you all for your recommendations.

Order placed! It seemed silly to only order 5kg when I could have up to 30 for the same delivery!! Just hope all those hops and grain will fit in the freezer/fridge. Sod the kegerator, i need a grainerator..

Alas I ordered late on a Friday so maybe tuesday delivery? Stockport LHBS wont have any Wheat Malt for 2 weeks... so I think its a winner, plus i know its 'freshly' crushed!

What would I do with out this forum!??!?

Again thanks to you all!

i ordered mine after 2 cos i didnt want it next day ( as out ) .... came on the day i wanted about noon ... really cant fault any of the service at all from rob .

Thank you all for posting about this...

Today grain has arrived milled yesterday! It will be in tun by 1pm! Excellent service, hops look tip top as well. I think I'll be placing another order next week! :thumb:
