So I take it you cant just crack the bottle open use some then re-cap it as it will oxidize? That was my plan...

Was wondering exactly the same question, after Muntons malt extract has gone up to £14.99 a tin. Was thinking of the idea of decanting a 25 kg drum of malt into smaller containers and keeping them sealed until required. Never thought about the freezing part of it though. I was thinking it would just do in the cupboard at cool room temperature in airtight containers. 1l bottles sounds a lot of fun getting it into and out of.

Alternatively, I wonder how it would keep if you inerted the air space in the drum with nitrogen and kept a nitrogen blanket over it until the next brew day.

stupid question answer here,

we used to use a chemical that did not like being left with to much air, we did this

so since its in a reasonble flexable plastic container, cant you just squease out what you need and then before the tub takes its shape again screw the lid on to keep the level of malt near or next to the lids top :wha: :wha:

ok so its only going to work for most of the malt the last few will be a swine to get out

just a thought..... after opening would it not be better and put into 1 kg batches (plastic bottles or whatever) then you could just take out the freezer what you needed for your next brew. should last a wile then?

Had another reply from Worcesterhopshop -

"malt extract is not suitable for freezing, it should be stored in a cool dry place."

Looks like I need to find someone local to me to share a container with. :hmm:
