Hi all,

I am still fairly new to all grain brewing and started my fourth batch yesterday which went well but the original gravity is 1040 when the target is 1045. My other brews have always been a bit over and allowed me to add additional water to get to the target gravity.

Is this a big enough difference to be worried about and if so can I do anything to increase the gravity?

Thanks butty

it may of happened for a few reasons like dough balls (not enough mixing in the mash tun) temp control maybe , did you need to do protein rest (wheat malt) i tend to lower my efficiency on my cals and can then add water if needed (easier that way) but tend to just happily leave it that way (no water added)
