I kegged my latest brew (Gales Festival Mild) last night at FG 1002 which was predicted to be 1012. The beer is a little cloudy but tastes just fine.

I reclaimed the yeast from a bottle of my previous brew which I thought had been prepared in a clean environment. What do you think, is this a bad sign??

As you say - it really shouldn't got as low as that.

My gut feel is that your WLP002 has got a helper in the form of a wild yeast. How does it taste? Do you get a foaming sensation? Perhaps an excessive bitterness?

My first thought is temperature calibration of the hydrometer. What temp did you read at and what's the hydro calibrated at?

My second thought is the mash temps. If they're miles off there could be a lot of weird sugars that would affect the FG.

How are you testing the gravity. I've used some on-line refractometer calculators that have shown similar results so I've double checked with a hydrometer and they were wrong.

Tastes ok (flat) no foaming sensation (yet)

I hadn't thought about temperature, it would be about 18oC taken out of brew fridge.

Mash temps were as in GWs book

I used a Youngs brand hydrometer, it doesn't say the temperature it is calibrated at but I assume 20oC
