Hello,
Set off 3 batches of beer on new years day and tonight I wondered when they will be done their initial fermentation. 1st one Heart of England bitter and it says 4 to 6 days or when bubbles stop.2nd one Coopers Australian pale ale simular. 3rd Milestone Crusader and Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah instructions on the box which has gone to the recycling heaven. Guess its basically simular but this one had the sugars in the 2 tim gooo mix. I guess i could make sure the hydrometer is steady for 24 hrs ?? Any idea's ? Also how much sugar for the secondary fermentation in either bottles or keg ? Anyone help at all please ?

All the best, Colin.

You will do no harm leaving them for a couple of weeks, and yes definitely check the gravity over 2 days before bottling.

I force carbonate in cornies now but seem to remember using one teaspoon of sugar per pint for carbonation when bottling. You can add it to the bottles or batch prime (rack to another FV or barrel, add dissolved priming sugar to that before racking, then bottle as normal). Based on one teaspoon per pint you can work out how much you need to batch prime.

Bottling is closer to half a tsp per pint. Someone will link you to a calculator.

Kegs are a lot less on account of being a single large bottle essentially. My dad recommends 'a good handful' - closer to 100g I'm sure.

Hi Colin,

I've just done a Coopers stout - they tend to use the same instruction leaflet for them all so I'll take a look for you later.

I also did the Coopers IPA in the past. It finished bang on 1.006 so you would probably want to aim for that for your Aussie.

Haven't done either of the other brands though. Might be worth a google, see if anyone's ripped the instuctions and stuck them online?
