Hi all,
We're planning a milestone birthday celebration for a good friend. He says that his favoured beers are John Smiths and Budweiser.
Could anyone recommend a kit that come out like John Smiths?
Unfortunately, I'm not geared up yet for full brew recipes... :(
Any help or ideas would be gratefully received.

I hope there isn't any kits that come out like John Smith's..  It'll give homebrewing a bad reputation.. :D

Oh I quite understand.
Not my choice. It took me ages to pluck up the courage to post. Didn't want to be expelled for poor taste!
Thanks anyway.

In that case...

I would probably look at the very generic one-can bitters. Young's harvest etc but brew it with malt rather than sugar.

You'll end up with something very middle-of-the-road that won't offend. :thumb:

I've been looking at these online at tesco, £10.96 per kit.
They have Harvest Yorkshire Bitter, Harvest Bitter and Harvest Mild kits, is there much difference?
As with the OP, it's for someone else, my dad -he's 70 this year, and the reason I decided to give home brewing a go.
He's a bitter drinker, and used to drink John Smiths Magnet, draught and Tetley's.
I would like to give him a keg of something nice, and that he likes for his Birthday.

Try Coopers English Heritage Bitter... a one can kit that's good... imho
Mine came out at 4.2%abv and was a very pleasant drink, however it needed 5 or 6 weeks in the bottle to get to its best

The problem you might have with the John Smiths challenge is that your mate probably likes the smooth flow effect. You aren't going to get that type of effect unless you are serving from a keg using a co2/nitro mix.
