Hey,

I've just finished brewing my Wherry, and a Design-a-brew (hobgoblin style) but have found that although they're nice, they are a little bitter for my tastes. The hobgoblin one definately has some awesome flavours but needs to sit in the bottle for a good few weeks I'd expect, to smooth out those rough edges (i hope).

Anyone know of a really smooth and malty beer kit that I could try?

Buy the Book ' How to Brew' by John Palmer and use the guidelines in there to improve your hobgoblin kit.

I have similar tastes and have just had the last bottle of some Admirals Reserve I made 6 months ago. Much better with age & it's certainly malty and flavoursome but not too bitter.

St Peter's Ruby Red would also fit the bill, but the best kit I've ever made is a Brupak FIxby Gold.

I am no master brewer, but I am loving brewing my own malt extract beers where I chose the malt, the grains, the hops and the yeast. Do a brew, mature it, taste it, make notes and next time make it better. I know I can brew beer better than those you buy, I have done it, it just takes time to get a cracking recipe!
