Hi all,

Ok I'm still very new to home brewing and have a couple of questions.

1. I started off a beer kit in November and then due to various events it's been left in the fermentation bucket in the spare room until now. It looks and tastes ok, do you reckon it's ok to barrel and drink?

2. If I use a barrel are they safe to transport on a car journey? Do I need to open the lid or anything to stop the pressure getting too high if it gets sloshed around?

3. Assuming questions 1 & 2 are ok, Is there any way to quickly make the beer settle once at the destination. I plan to take it to a party but will only have about 8 hours settleing time :(

Thanks for your advice

Dan

Have moved this into the Beer brewing discussion threads as It doesn't belong in the How to Guides :thumb:

6 months in the primary FV? Wow, that's a long fermentation. You could try barrelling it but, to be honest, you may be better off starting again.

You can transport a barrel but you'll need a good week for it to settle.

All in all I'd chalk it down to experience and buy some cans.

why not bottle it even if you bottle in 2l Pop bottles it will transport better and settle in a cold fridge in a few hours.

sounds like a good idea as you not got much to lose. but six months wow thats a long one

If it looks and tastes ok i would go ahead and barrel it :thumb:
If you have a spare fermenter you could rack it into that, add some finings and then keg once cleared, that way you should have less sediment to disturb when transporting. Leaving the lid on will be fine for the journey, and once you're there get it somewhere as cool as possible to help it settle quicker
