Got a meeting next Tuesday in Westminster so staying there Monday. Can anyone recommend good places to eat and drink in that area?

Not that familiar with Westminster, but if you fancy a walk through St. James Park and up into Covent Garden then the Craft Beer Co. is my go-to bar in London. Not cheap but a phenomenal selection, a bit of everything but focussed on modern stuff, IPAs, sours, imps...

Porterhouse is good too, brew their own so reasonably priced, but massive and heaving every time I've been there.

My go-to places around there:

Between Westminster and Victoria Station:
Cask Pub & Kitchen, 6 Charlwood St, Lillington and Longmoore Gardens, London SW1V 2EE - Great beer range plus burgers to save you having to move to eat (or a nice Thai restaurant opposite!)

or you could cross the river over Westminster bridge and try the following:
Waterloo Tap, Sutton Walk, Lambeth, London SE1 8RL - under the arches of Waterloo station 5-6 beers on cask, ~20 on Keg
Kings Arms, 25 Roupell St, Lambeth, London SE1 8TB - great (but often busy) pub behind Waterloo station 8-10 beers on cask, Thai food in the back (sense a theme?)

or across Vauxhall Bridge:
Mother Kelley's, 76, Albert Embankment, SE1 7TP - 33 taps plus bottle shop

+1 for Craft Beer Co. Echoing what's already been said above it isn't the cheapest, but they usually have some fantastic stuff on. Had a 7 Islands milkshake IPA last time I was there, exquisite.

Loads of great traditional style pubs especially around Westminster, beer selection isn't always amazing but if you're after vibe and decent pub grub you're usually not far from somewhere in central.

If you want to venture out a bit, Beer and Burger in Willesden Green is fantastic. 5 metres of fridges, 20 taps, great burgers and enthusiastic staff, you'll often find me in there bothering them. It'll take you about 25 minutes from Westminster, straight along the Jubilee line.

Of course there's always Wetherspoons if you're after cheap and cheerful! The craft selection in most London ones has improved substantially over the last few years, and the table service via the app is an added convenience. Let us know how you get on!

Thanks all.

Will report back next week

Just remembered! Great pub near Piccadilly Circus called The Lyric, tiny little place, proper narrow old style pub. Usually have a couple of specialist beers on, I think they had some Magic Rock and Thornbridge last time I was there. Worth a check out if you're in the area!

Also it's worth downloading the Drinki app, a free drink in London every day, no catch. A lot of cocktails and gin and tonics but some places do Punk IPA now (I swear they haven't paid me to advertise it, it's genuinely just a great app!). Oh and there are loads of Brewdogs scattered around London, enjoy!

The harp is good, not far from the porterhouse, closer to trafalgar square. Draft house on Charlotte street in Fitzrovia. If your over that way there is the Craft Beer Co, as previously mentioned. Belgos for Belgian beers and food, one in seven dials and one on holborn road. Lowlander Grand cafe dury lane. De Hems in China town. There are also a few nice pubs behind the royal courts of justice.

Oh and edit, there is also the market porter and the Rake in borough market

Reckon you ought to cancel that meeting and just hit the pubs all day

Myquls house...the Peckham taproom..with mine host M! He could then show you his collection of hand knitted bicycle shawls and winkle pickers.

I wish (re; owning a tap room)

Peckham is the new shoreditch (I'm not joking) I could quite easily flog those bicycle shawls and winkle pickers to all the hipsters flooding here

No matter how many flood in M you will always be the original ..they would be wetting their drainpipe tweeds if they knew you actually made the beer they're all experts in...

I'm just up the road in Kennington and the hipsters have started invading my local (Crown and Anchor). Horrific.

There like locusts. Consuming all the crops then moving on.

Actually I read why one area gets hip for a while then the next, etc;

The young hip things (usually in their late teens/20's but without much money) find an area with cheap rents (e.g. Peckham once upon a time), they then make it very trendy with all their trendy bars, artisan yoga clubs etc. This then attracts the hip 30's/40's who have more money and are able to buy into the area. This pushes the prices up of the rents for the young hip 20 somethings who can no longer afford to live in the area so they move on to the next area with cheap rents. Then the cycle starts again
