This weekend I had to take garden rubbish to the local dump and popped into the shop they run selling off the items they've been given.

I picked up a Youngs 5 gallon fermenting bucket and four demijohns - all for the princely sum of £6. That's less than the cost of 1 demijohn from Wilkinson's! And the money goes to a good cause!

After a bit of a clean they're all as good as new.
So now I'm waiting for the elderflowers to come out so I've got something to put in them!

Do people ever have enough FVs or demijohns?

Cheers,
Matt

Yes :thumb:

Mind you, I have got around 40 DJs, ten 15 litre and three 19 litre office water cooler bottles, 2 x 15L, 2 x 25L and 1 x 30L buckets plus two 30L screw-topped FVs.

The trouble is every time on I visit this forum I find new recipes and think "if only I had another demijohn".

Maybe after the initial novelty has worn off it'll calm down.
My wife already thinks she's become a Home brew Widow!

I picked up another 12 djs this afternoon to take me up to 28, plus two water cooler bottles. And still I think of needing more.

I actually feel as if I have too many DJs at the moment, but that's because all of my 1gal batches came up just a bit short of 1gallon once racked and are maturing in squashed down 5L PETs, meanwhile all of my larger batches are still fermenting.

I'm sure that feeling of having too many will go away once I get to the stage of racking my large batches into them for long term storage.

My water cooler bottles (now carboys) came out of a skip and I had half a dozen DJ's out of a recycling bin a couple of years back.
Sometimes I think I have too many. Other times, they're all full.

I only have 2 glass DJ's. And hardly ever use them. I also have a few 5lt pet's but again they are gathering dust. I also have 4 x 30 lt screw top fermenters and they are never empty. :thumb:

I realise you're replying to Moley there, but my set up is ~25 DJs, 1 x 15L, 3 x 30L screw top, 2 x 15L buckets and, believe it or not, I'm not a particularly heavy drinker!

For me, homebrewing is more of a hobby than a means of supplying my drinking habits. I brew so much because a) I like giving it as gifts and b) I go through obsessive phases and I want to make sure I've got plenty of stock for when I inevitably have a year or 2 of being fed up of brewing.
