Hi All, As I'm getting older I'm finding the home brew a bit strong, is it possible to put less sugar in a kit to lower the ABV to say under 4%.

Hi Clint thank you, is there a way of working out the ABV, to say if I add 800g instead of 1kg of sugar or add a litre or 2 of water.Yep..or add more water.
If I remember correctly (and with a little help from brewers friend) 100g of sugar on 23 L will give a gravity of 1.002 and will likely ferment completely so give an ABV of .22%, so if you reduce your sugar content by 200g you will knock the ABV down by about .44%Hi Clint thank you, is there a way of working out the ABV, to say if I add 800g instead of 1kg of sugar or add a litre or 2 of water.

Thank youKeep measuring the gravity of the wort, form that point there are calculators you can use on line. Never done kits before, this is only my guess how I would do it.
Hi, I have 1.5 and 1.7 kitsIs your kit 1.5kg or 1.8kg?
Thank you1.5 kg plus 1000g brewing sugar will give you 3.8% for 23 litres.
Thank yousugar only really bumps up the abv
OK thanksNot much - alcohol in and of itself is part of the taste, but at these levels, you probably won't notice much taste difference. Mouthfeel maybe.
Brill thanksIf I remember correctly, in a 23L brew, adding 500g sugar gives you an extra 1% ABV so presumably reducing sugar added reduces ABV by the same amount.
