Emergency! I have 40pints of ale in a pressure barrel. It's been sitting there quietly for 6weeks but last night it started dripping through the dodgy tap that I'd thought I had mended. I have another barrel on stand by and a few bottles, question is; before transfering will I have to add more sugar to avoid flat beer?

Dont think you will need to add more sugar but you might disturb the sediment at the bottom of the barrel. Does your barrel have a c02 valve in the lid?

Yes the barrel's got a valve but I haven't gassed it up yet (I normally use the natural pressure/gas for the first few pints before affixing the cylinder. The tap is at the bottom but I'm pretty sure I can get some height and gravity feed it into the new barrel without too much disturbance.
P.S. thanks also for the quick reply,
cheers

Brilliant! thanks to all. Re-barrelled with very little disturbance and used the tube as recommended. All looking good, old tap getting tossed in the bin.
