I plan to ferment a Munich Helles lager for 4 weeks at 10c in one of my plastic FV's

After that I plan to lager for 2/3 months but am unsure on the best way to do this?

Should I:
-Rack to my corny, lager in that for 2/3 months then force carbonate

-Rack to another plastic FV lager for 2/3 months then rack to my corny and force carbonate

If I lagered in the plastic FV would I have issues with oxidization?

Cheers
Nick

For secondary, I generally use glass carboys. But I have also used cornies to lager as well. If I use a corny, I still rack to a new corny after the 2-3 months of lagering so I can leave behind all the sediment that settled out during the lagering phase.

my info states when lagering either do for 4 weeks (ish) or 6 months . lagering for example say 3 months will show no real advantage over 4 to 6 weeks unless you lager for a full 6 months or longer . I would lager for 4 weeks then bottle and leave em 6 months .

I have measured my brew fridge and a glass Carboys will be too tall, I was thinking about buying a stainless steel pot to lager in, would that be better than a plastic FV?

I'm sorry to tell you that you're information is somewhat less than correct! The Czech brewers lager for one week for each degree Plato, so a 12 Plato beer (1.048 ) gets 12 weeks lagering, a 10 Plato (1.040) beer gets 10 weeks. Extended lagering such as 6 months is just plain mad. 4 weeks is not an adequate period for lagering. . Unless you have made a 4 Plato beer

Does lagering extend to bottling too? I was planning a lager in early spring so that it was ready for summer and I was planning on bottling it all after fermentation, or should I stick it in a cornie first then bottle?

Cheers
Andy

No, you are not confused. Traditional lagering takes place at around 0-4C depending on cellar temperature at the time and follows the above rule. If you have the ability to take the temperature down to -2 to -1C then the rule changes to 1 Day for each week at 0 to 4C

Thanks A, as always top information. Good to know the old brain is hold up
So its a lager brew over Christmas, maybe two weeks tomorrow afternoon,if the family thing gets out of hand  and wait for some cold weather. ;)
