lager yeast

Quick question about yeast we want to make a lager or pilsner at the weekend, has anyone not used lager yeast to brew a lager could anyone give me a few ideas based on their own brews? :

Mark, do you mean you want to use an ale yeast to brew a lager? If so, how about the cali common yeast, an Alt yeast, or a Kolsch yeast.

Wyeast 2112 is a nice yeast if you can get it. It handles the lower temps too.

I can recommend WLP810 San Francisco Lager yeast, nice clean taste, ferments at 14-18C, I've had attenuation of 77-81%, and it sticks to the bottom of the bottle :thumb:

Sounds like you are set then Mark. Either one of those should work well for you.

We have a choice now too as the wlp800 pilsner yeast is fermenting well now :thumb:

I used W34/70 with a coopers lager kit and it turned out great, takes a long time though, due to the low temps i think
