I'm looking to get into AG in the next couple of months, but I am quite worried about brewing in my kitchen.

For one, it's a very small kitchen and to monopolize it for nearly a whole day would probably not please the flatmate and for two, would the steam cause any damage to walls/wallpaper?

Anyone with AG Kitchen Brewing experience got any advice to offer on the subject? :thumb:

Try to time your brewdays for when you know flatmate will be out. My wife works occasional Satudays and/or Sundays so that's when I brew.

I get bollocked for filling the house with steam and condensation unless I have kitchen window open and back door ajar, and I get bollocked for “stinking the house out” if I don't keep other adjoining doors closed.

Then again, my wife rarely chooses to drink beer at home, so the level of tolerance you receive may vary if your flatmate is likely to be sharing the finished product.

Same; I have and will time my brewdays when my girlfriend is at work for a whole day. For "steam management" I opened windows, put the extractor fan on and plugged in our dehumidifier which seemed to do the trick.

Like AM says, if your housemate is likely to be enjoying the fruits of your labour, they should be cool with it. Who knows, they might even be able to help ;)

I'm sure he'll be having at last some of the brew. He's been fine with my 3 or 4 FVs in random spots throughout the flat so far, so I don't see him being a huge obstacle.

The major problem is that our kitchen has no windows, and I'm not sure how great the extraction fan is. The dehumidifier could be an idea though, cheers for that!

I feel your pain

for my next brew I'm going to mash and sparge in the kitchen and ,weather permitting, boil outside, see if that eases the mood somewhat :D

Thats what i do. A lean-too always helps :thumb:

I do have access to the garden, but I am planning on building an electric boiler and there aren't any plugs outside so that kinda makes it hard to boil outside

I think I'll give it a go and see how it turns out. Sadly, it won't be for quite a bit as I'm currently using my brewing budget on some plane tickets for a holiday

Ive brewed in the kitchen but swmbo complained about the smell through the house :wha:
now i brew in the garden using 2 extension leads one from the upstairs ring and the other from downstairs no problems unless the weather gets the better of mr then the gazebo goes up
