Keggerator

Over the next week (or so) I'll be converting a Chest Freezer into a Keggerator so that I can have beer at the temp I want - all year around - the parts are all on order.

The freezer isn't currently deep enough for the cornies so tonight I made up a collar to extend the depth to give me enough room for the cornies plus another 15cm.

It will hold 4 kegs at a push but I'll probably stick to just 3 in there which will be more comfortable with the tube heater in there.

Here's the collar - it fits perfectly.

I'll be insulating it tomorrow.

Temperature control will be using an ATC800 and a 60w Tubular Heater.

I'm looking forward to this little project :thumb:

I have almost given up on a keggorater no room in the garage and the misses won't let me move to a bigger house just to have one. Some people are just so selfish!

I guess i'm flukey - the Mrs suggested we get a bigger chest freezer that the one we have - she expected me to say no :lol:

I've wired up the ATC800 tonight - no burns or explosions

I have wired it to 2x single 13 amp sockets, I shall plug the freezer into one and the tube heater into the other .. if it arrives

I can't wait to post some pictures but it's still full of waffles and frozen veg at the moment - it's being turned off with goods transferred to another freezer tomorrow

It's all done and working (except the tube heater which hasn't arrived yet :evil: ) crappy ebay seller

I've been working on this every night this week so not been on line much

This is done now :thumb: (well it will be when the tubular heater arrives - but thats a 2 min job)

I made a collar for the freezer insulating it with polystyrene and silver radiator backing foil - the orignial freezer lid fits snugly on top of the collar.

The ATC800 is mounted in a sandwich box screwed to the collar and is wired to two mains outlets (cooling and heating) these outlets are also screwed to the collar.

I have fixed the cask breather to the collar also - the gas line from this goes through the collar (very snug fit) I've drilled a hole for the beer line to come out and plugged it with grommets.

The beer line then goes to a check valve near to the beer engine.

Just poured a nice pint of XL Bitter.

I picked up a 2 way regulator today so that I can have a cider keg in the Keggerator also at a higher PSI.

[edit - I should say that it's set to maintain 13c but with the lack of a heater it's calling for heat but remaining at ambient temp 8/9c at the moment)

Yeah no worries.

ATC800 controller was £27.98 delivered (ebay) and the 60w Tubeular Heater (still to arrive) cost £18.95 delivered (ebay)

Other costs (wood - mains outlets) were pretty minimal, probably £20 - £30

For another controller (Which is somewhat snmaller than the ATC 800 . . . and a bit of a better price) I can recomend the Forttex TC-10 (Which you can enter to win one ) for those wishing to lager it is a better option than the ATC as the temperature settings are wider.
