I have just kegged a bitter kit and it just filled up to about 3/4 of the keg question is I have primed it but should I also add co2 to keep air of the top of brew til the primer kicks in?

You should be ok, the co2 that gets created will drive off any air. I always just add the priming sugar and leave it, secondary fermentation kicks off pretty quick.
