So long as there's no wires or pipes etc leading to it then you should be fine, it's likely just insulation and a plastic/thin metal shell. When opening the lid you'll have to be careful not to crush the tower into the wall though and damage it, though.
 
thanks for the reply! there seems to be a wire for a light, no pipes..

I don't have the wall problem as this keezer is going to be part of a bar setup and open towards no walls.
 
Maybe - you have a light in the lid so there will be electric cables. Most likely you’ll see the cable near (or contained in) the hinge mechanism and from there it will go pretty much straight to the light but you can’t be sure.

Will you still be able to open the lid?

Is the lid strong enough for your tower and to secure the fixings?
 
You should be good. Wiring should run horizontally or vertically, best way is to drill a smaller hole and then fish about the insulation material with a screwdriver or the like and see. If all is good, keep going.
