i am a huge fan of banana beer and i have not a clue how when or where they go into the brew so.............
i am going to add 1kg of ripe bananas to a simple recipe for 45 mins of boil left then 500g for the last ten mins and treat them like hops with a few hops i should have lurking around
how does that sound
all the best ktg

this is a sensible test cos tesco have cheap market bananas
my awesome stepdad is a huge fan of baked fruit n heat seems to do nanas no damage
was a little unsure about that bit was hoping the worst it could do is make it bitter

righto i might try it this weekend not next month
2.5 kg pale
200g crystal
200g terrified wheat
1 kg nanas
 :wha:
goldings or fuggles ?

I wouldn't worry about it, if TS can make a damn fine brew by soaking his cock in it wort for several days, a kg of nana's is not going to do any harm, :drink:

I'd add the sliced/pulped bananas to the wort at steep . . . If I was insane enough to actually think it was a good idea to put bananas in beer anyway

Of course it counts as one of your 5 a day :thumb:
and don't forget if you make beer from scratch it's "Whole grain" too

If you don't use any sugar in the recipe or use any sod met, it could be:

"One of your 5 a day"

"Whole grain"

"No added sugar"

"No preservatives"

Maybe that chap who designed those good looking labels needs to add these selling points.

Any more?

I hope anyone thinking of making a fine brew by dipping their manhood in wort for several days, does not follow the instructions above

right i'm doing this brew this weekend
going to make a harvey's clone and hold a gallon aside to nananafy
mrs ktg is away most of saturday so get the brewery out
note to self must test bananas in boiling water one just ripe one ripe and one very ripe
ktg

I may be wrong but my grandad was going to make banana wine years ago and he was told they had to be overripe i dont know if im wrong like i said it was years ago but if so does this apply ro beer ???

Dont know if it's any use to you KTG but when I added vanilla pods to the kettle on cool down I got very little flavour from them, the yeast strips a lot of it out, when I added them to the secondary it really shone through, however, placing nanas in the fv may not be good, I'm not sure but I think there would be a lot of wild yeast and bacteria and stuff.
I'd be inclined to follow Both Alemans and Jims advice, diced nans in a steep (lots of) and when you keg /bottle have a bottle of essence standing by to boost if needed.
Let us know how it goes, I tasted the bananna beer, can't remember who makes it and loved it but it's no session beer for me one or two is enough for a night.

Dont Bananas contain sucrose, fructose and glucose all of which are fermentable anyways and Im sure I've been told that in Kenya they make an alcoholic beverage out of nana's.

I'd mash up the ripened bananas and add them to the FV dont think i'd add the skins though
