Evening all.
Just started a 5 gallon cider kit, do I need to put the lid on the fermenting bucket firmly or loosely?

Doesn't really matter. Loose is good enough - enough CO2 is generated to form a protective layer as far as oxygen goes, the lid is mainly to stop **** falling in. If you have a dog or cat you might want it to be fairly secure.
