Morning!

I was wondering if there is a juice to water ratio you like to stick to when making TCs? I've lucked into a shedload of from concentrate juices from a mate who works at a supermarket (Almost 60 cartons of "Damaged" stock) and want to get a couple of 23L batches on but I'm not sure if using 20L of juice will improve the cider or not. I'm planning on adding a litre of blackcurrant and a litre of lime cordial to the juices along with the prerequisite litre of uber strong tea. If i can find a local Polish shop the other will be Raspberry Lowicz.

Will this improve it, or am I better sticking to the 15-17L Roddy seems to always add to his?

For plain TC's I stick with 3L juice per gallon and top up with water, this makes a nice quaffing cider of around 5%, if you want stronger cider use more juice. I add a bottle of Lowicz or NAS squash per gallon for flavoured TC's

My missus and daughter like a summer fruits squash and raspberry Lowicz mixed together so I make a gallon of each and mix them.

For cider i use 100% juice and whatever other additives i may like to try. For wine type wow's i tend to use 3 litres of juice to a demijon plus additives and water. I guess it all comes down to personal taste in the end.

I only put water in mine to keep the ABV under control. If I use all juice, I end up paralytic after 4-5 bottles (7+ %) and get a kick in from the wife :nono:

I could drink less or drink them more slowly, but wheres the fun in that !

ps... how much water depends on whether I put the fruity syrup stuff in the primary...

have a look at/download this, might help :)

I've made a change to the formulas in the sheet Roddy, it automagically calculates whether the primer sugar volume is correct now based on the total volume you're planning on using.

Sorry if this is out of order, I'm not even sure if it has saved to your drive, but I can send it if you'd like. Just makes things easier for me given my hectic life with the young'un at the minute...

100% juice. Although actually as it's `juice made from concentrate' who knows how much water has been added before they boxed it. Tescos value juice comes out at about 5% ABV.
