No, but i have some coming from Amazon of all places. Long story but i ordered a AG NEIPA kit from Keg that, but they didn’t have Jarrylo hops so sent a substitute (Citra), I’ve yet to recieve the Jarrylo or even brew the NEIPA so can’t comment further really.

I’m still waiting for them to arrive, apparently arriving on 28th so fingers crossed.

One question i have as the instructions don’t say and i’m a novice AG brewer, “at what point do i dry hop”? I’m guessing as the fermentation is dropping off? See below for what i received with the kit.

Thats a good replacement Citra for Jarrylo but I would say not on the same level IMO, Citra is much stronger

Just looked at the descriptors and they are very even on all of them whereas Citra is strong on well citrus, Should make a good brew though acheers. :beer1:🎅

It’s been a right mix up from KegThat, they sent Citra as a replacement but only 4gms??? As opposed to the required 4gms per litre as per recipe, hence i ordered some Jarrylo from Amazon. It’s actually come from Cross My look through their Amazon website.

Yes I remember the thread now when you mentioned the 4g of, at least they have sent a great replacement when it comes.
CML are a great company to deal with and do their own AG kits give them a try next time I swear by their service as top class

Crossed wires here mate, it was KegThat where i bought the kit and they only supplied 4gms of hops instead of 4gms/l which amounts to 100gms. I tried phoning and emailing them twice but no response so in the end i decided to buy my own which is 100gms of Calypso which i received and 100gms of Jarrylo which will arrive on 28th hopefully.

Not very happy with KegThat at the minute either.

There are various options but IMHO you don't want to leave the hops in there more than 3 days. So when I dry hop I add them for the last 3 days before I rack off or bottle. In my normal process I allow the primary fermentation to finish which will be up to a week normally then leave it for another week. That fits nicely with weekends. I would add the dry hops 3 days before the end of that 2nd week.

I was always let to believe that hops left in for more than 3 days or so led to a grassy flavour in the finished beer but a few months ago I made a NEIPA and wanted to try adding the hops at high Krausen so, two days after pitching the yeast I added 125g hops pellets in a nylon supermarket fruit bag weighed down with two SS spoons (all sanitised), left for 8 days then cold crashed for 3 days before racking. Come out lovely with no grassy flavours at all.

Its not far off a urban myth that one Benfleet, I also am advocate of dry hopping on day 3/4 just as the first flush of vigorous fermentation so that you are opening the FV whilst co2 is being produced to protect from oxygenation unless you are pressure fermenting. Late dry hopping is more risky although I await the barrage of members that do it :tinhat:

I will not be pressure fermenting as such, but will maintain a steady 1-3psi in the FV. Also the hops will be introduced via the yeast collection jar attached to the bottom of the Fermzilla. I plan to set the spunding valve slightly higher, say 4psi and have it fed directly into the yeast jar. I’m experimenting on that process with a MYO IPA kit right now and it seems to be working well.

The discharged C02 coming through the SV and into the jar will keep the hops oxygen free then at the correct time open the butterfly valve and let everything mingle.

As others, I find at get the best 'hop funk' that I'm looking for if I only dry hop for 2 to 3 days then cold crash and keg ASAP.
But I once left my hops in for nearly 2 weeks, I wasn't as pungent as I'd like (still nice and bitter but less of that stinky citra goodness) but I had no grassiness at all - was def not a bad beer.

But at what point to i add the hops?
Assuming you know how long you want to leave the beer in the fermenter, and how long you want the hops to be in the beer, then my advice would be to subtract one from the other and add the hops then.
But as the comments above show, there are potentially other ways.

I might be wrong (probably am) but i was under the impression that dry hopping should be done when fermentation is coming to an end but not quite finished?

I would add hops in a bag after the first flush of fermentation has died down roughly day 3 or 4 for 3 days then remove them. if you search the forum you will get several different opinions

Haven't got a recipe for Jarrylo but I notice you have Summit in the pipeline. I use Summit as my summer Pale/IPA and its fruity but light easy drinking with just a base Pale Malt
