Hi All,

I've calculated the efficiency of my equipment over the last two beers that I've brewed. It's 80%-81%, resulting in beers that were a bit stronger than intended.

Now, how do I use that information to adjust recipes?

- What do I need to do with the grain bill? Are there different ways of treating the pale vs darker malts?

- Do I need to adjust the hop quantities?

- Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Thanks,
JT

What efficiency is this? Mash efficiency or brewhouse efficiency? Presuming it is brewhouse, then congratulations! The next thing you need to do it put your future recipes into some brew software, like BeerSmith or Brewer's Friend, and specify your efficiency. If the recipe assumes a lower efficiency, then you will want scale down the grist accordingly. Some software allows you to do this automatically. This should't change your hop quantities. In fact, your hopping would be lower than it should be if you overshoot your OG, which you have been, but your adjusted recipe should be right on target.
