Last night I made brew #6 which was my first AG - an Old Peculiar clone.
My chiller isn't built yet (I should have waited but I'm impatient) so I poured the boiled wort into a sanitised FV, sealed the lid on it and left it in a sink of ice water overnight. It's at the right temperature now but when I looked inside, there is a load of floating debris - now some looks like it bits of hops that must have got through the strainer but there are some floating lumps which look a bit like phlegm!!!
Is this protein, something else perfectly normal or is it something I should be worried about?
Also, I'm using a dry yeast (Mangrove Jack) which says to sprinkle directly into he wort but should I make a starter first?
