Well ok, that might be an exaggeration but reports of it's death might have been over stated :)
Just carried the keg down stairs to look at what could be done and discovered no mold when I opened the barrel. I could also smell the CO2 and there were patches of bubbles on the surface. (which is what I must have mistaken for mold in the dim room it's been kept in!. So I gassed the keg up with CO2 and heard a hissing! So open it up again and checked the lid O ring. That seemed alright, so tightened it down again and with the help of No 1 son made sure it was doubly tight. Second CO2 bulb spat a lot of CO@ out the side, so this time twas gassed up :) Cracked the tap and a gushing of cloudy brown liquid cam out. Tasted fine though :) It still needs another week or so to settle I believe, the the problem seems to have been the seal.
Thanks for the advise folks, here's hoping for a beery Christmas :-D
