It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good, well fate certainly proved that today. I’d taken the morning off work as British Gas were coming round to fit a new radiator. The engineers turned up as promised but the first words out of the engineers mouth “Has the rad been delivered?” put the kybosh on the whole thing, the rad turned up three hours after the engineers had left. This did mean that I had the afternoon to myself and as I had a Coopers Cerveza that would have been in the FV for three weeks come Saturday I thought why not. So, I happily spent the afternoon bottling it, I’ll add the details of the brew to the kit review. I have to say the new bottle rinser and tree are making such a difference to bottling I really should have bought them day one five past eight. If anyone who bottles is reading this doesn’t have them then spend the money they’re worth their weight in gold.

On Saturday I’m going to be having a crack at #AG2, the hops I have are 50g of Hallertau 7.1AA, 70g Saaz 3.1AA, 70g Summer 4.1AA and 35g East Kent Golding pellets 5.7AA. I’m thinking:
Batch 23L
4.5kg MO
500g Crystal 150

90m mash 66c
90m boil

40g Hallertau 90m (60m?)

15g Saaz 15m
15g Summer 15m

15g Saaz 0m
15g Summer 0m

5g Irish moss 15m
I’ll be doing a no chill and pitching the trub from my Coopers Cerveza which is a Wilko Gervin yeast. Although I do have a Mangrove Jacks Workhorse and a Mauribrew 514 both left over from the summer. Any suggestions will be very gratefully accepted.

Nice looking recipe there mate.
Personally I'd reduce the crystal to about 4/5%, it can be quite dominating.
Also, maybe increase the hop additions as they are low alpha.

Completely agree with you about the bottle tree and rinser...makes everything simpler...only thing is it is such a big bit of kit..

Recipe looks good, from my very limited pov, but agree with post upthread about possible increasing Saaz and summer.

Cheers

Martin

+2 on the bottle tree and rinser.
If I was going for a pale ale I'd trim back the crystal 150 to 200-250 grams and up the late hops...but its all personal preference. Having said that, I'm doing an armadillo pale ale tomorrow and plan to use 500 grams carapils.

Carapils won't actually add flavour though will it? I thought it was for body and head?

Sounds like shower gel...
