So on Tuesday 14th I suffered my 40th birthday. I've not been particularly fussed about getting older, but on Tues morn I came down with the lurgy, big snotty bunged up lurgy. I feel s**t. The weather was terrible and I bailed early. Wed & Thurs had better weather but I was still full of lurgy and didn't fancy going out. Now Fri the aches and shakes are going but the snot is as thick as ever, and I'm grumpy.

Does it get any better?? Or shall I start pulling my trousers up to my nipple line, buying clothes from the back-end of Sunday supplements and complaining incessantly??

I am going out tonight though with my mates to watch a rocking good band in Plymouth...

Oh there are many more joys to come your way.....

And wait till the morning after your 50th.... Long random hairs start sprouting everywhere ! except those on your head of course.

The teenagers have their Kevin.....

we have Victor Meldrew.

When you are 50? Bloody hell, I haven't even reached 40 yet and have to take a flymo to me ear'oles on a regular basis...

I started on my Mid life crisis at 40, it has manifested itself into brewing baking cheese making, and reading up about anything food wise that I can grow or make.

I'm there at 34 (although I haven't progressed to cheese-making yet).

Oh man, sounds so like me, I've been doing all that stuff and have only just realised it must be my midlife crisis

I'm 49 this year.

I had my mid life crisis at 35, bought a brand new motorcycle and had a shed load of fun.

The hair on my head is thinner now and grey, the hair in my nose and ears is thicker, my eyebrows are starting to do odd things, odd thing is those hairs aren't going grey :?:

I still ride motorcycles, but not quite as often, when I do I'm still faster point to point than many of the young guns who come out to 'play' with us.

I'm working on the theory that I have to grow old, but growing up is optional :D

I agree in my head it is still 1987 and The Smiths haven't yet split

46 now.............. still daft as a brush and immature.. I must be special..

Looking at life from the other side of the "hill" I've never been happier since I retired. I now have time to cycle every day and brew when I want to and garden when its not p*ssing it down, I can enjoy the grandkids (2.5 and 1) as much OR as little as I like. It turns out that I like them a lot and we (the wife and I) spend the occasional day together to give my son and his wife a bit of time to do the things they want to do.

There's lots to look forward to so think positively about your current situation and enjoy where you are at, it could get better!!.

Turning 27 and planning my brewery and curing chamber for cured meats. Started looking at how to keep pigs for the cured meats. Can't wait to hit my mid life crisis!

I MUST be slap bang in the middle of a mid life crisis - it's all there - taking up brewing, ,baking bread, buying a motorbike, suddenly deciding I want my holidays to be 50% with family, 50% without (well, none of them have a bike licence or an interest on brewing!) ... I'm 'only' 43... how much longer will this last....?

If you don't want it to continue......suicides your best bet.....lol

46 this year....

40 was a milestone for me...I stopped getting hung up on what people thought about me...told my boss at the time to go phook himself and I set up my own company...

Apres 40, I have noticed that fatty foods play havoc with me, hangovers last days rather than hours, aches and pains in the mornings mean that putting socks on is not as easy as it once was....

One obvious thing....Parents get older....Both Mum and Dad are well into their 70s now and are needing my time more and more. Dad had a massive stroke a few years ago and is very disabled and damaged, so he needs constant care...Mum is being investigated for cancer, she has lost over 2 stones within the last 4 months and is getting very frail...Worrying times for me!!

I realised some time ago that you only get one go at life, so do stuff that makes you smile...Do not regret anything

I too am a full time carer for my disabled mum it's not easy but after all she's done for me i can't say no to her now. It's the brewing and baking and most everything else that my dad did that keeps me sane these days. Yes i'm a grumpy old git (at 42) but life does seem a little sweeter now that i can look at the younger folks and see them stressing over the little things like hair gel and which shoes to wear, should i have a mocha frappa wappa crappy chino or a skinny latte, does my bum look big in this? is my phone better than yours? all these life altering things to think about. If thats life give me old age any day!

52 and loving it!

Very little overheads means FREEDOM from full time working, 2 or 3 days does me now.

I cant eat bread because it makes me ill so i am into making real proper curries after months in India. Yesterday i took my Royal enfield 500 bullet for a ride upto gloucester, over and down the other side of the severn, back over the old severn bridge (on the freeside haha) into a spice shop in Bristol. Loaded up the saddle bags with channa dal and chick peas and set off back to Wells and then made a delicious Dal masala with Jeera rice which tasted like being in India.

Life is good

I've never been healthier than in my 40's.
I have all the issues mentioned regarding minor aches and pains and family etc but it is so true that life begins at 40.
I think you realise that your time here is limited and you are going to make the most of it.
I totally agree with GraysAlchemy regarding an interest in growing, brewing and cooking. That is what me and my wife's life revolve around :)

And the Smiths have split up
There was a documentary on last week which is worth a watch if you are a fan - http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/0/22442676

1984 for me, long hot summer, brand new 550 under my arse, plenty of cash, the rah rah skirt had just made it to my neck of the woods for the girls and the women were wearing cheesecloth dresses :D

Ahh, happy days :)

Ive started writing crank letters to the papers...such a thrill when one goes to print...if you read a letter in your paper about inane conspiracy stuff such as "Are the pot holes in our roads a secret weapon against the possible French invasion"...."Youths wearing hoddies" etc written by Iain Tiddle, Pete Sake or Wilie Leak you will know who its from...

When my dad had his stroke, during the 3 months he was in hospital, I had time to write my bucket list (to be completed before my 50th)...Dad loves it, he reads the letters laughing his head off. He looks out for me on telly wondering about in the background of outside broadcast newsclips or as an extra in films etc
