I'm wrapping my Coleman's Mash tun in Thermawrap and fixing it with foil tape (thermawrap is bubble wrap with foil bonded to both sides). I'm considering putting one layer on the underside of the lid, but concerned either the wrap or the tape might not be lovely for food purposes?

Any thoughts?

I was looking into that DuPont ThermaWrap for when I put my MT together. It isn't certified as food safe, but that doesn't mean that it isn't food safe. An alternative (albeit an inferior one) would be to use bubble wrap that IS certified food safe and aluminium foil that is also certified. There are plenty of tapes on the market that are certified as food and heat safe, but you might have to go to a specialist tapes supplier. Not hard to find online though.

Cheers, Notlaw. I think I'll play it safe for the minute and see how the external wrapping works. If it still loses significant heat I will search for some food safe tape!

I've done a little bit on the inside of the lid and wrapped some artfully shaped polystyrene in kitchen foil and shoved them into the recesses!

For a DIY numpty, I'm sadly proud of my effort  I found the tin foil tape quite difficult to work with, but it certainly sticks!!

another option for the lid is to fill it with vermiculite or perlite....fairly cheap and effectively reduces heat loss....and fill the cup holders(if you have them) with pipe insulation. I found the lid was the main place I lost heat from my colemans box.

Cheers tartan, I filled the cup holders with some pipe insulation :thumb:

Did you just drill a hole in the lid then pour in the perlite through a funnel?
