Hi,
I'm new to AG, well, homebrewing in general, I have made 6 brews so far, all all grain.
I'm having massive fluctuations in my fly sparge results.
I've hit 89% brewhouse efficiency (admittedly a possible calculation error, but it was still high) right down to todays brew which was 61%!
Very disapointing!
No two results have been really similar, which is bothering me as I can't predict accurately what my BH efficiency will be when creating recipes.
I try to keep the run off rate at about 500ml per minute or less.
I use a three tier gravity system; boiler, MT and FV on the floor. I use a rotating sparge arm.
Mash temp 66*c.
Sparge water temp was 80*c + and grain bed temp was from 65*c to 72*c I took just over an hour to sparge with 25l. (I think this was a bit too much).
Grain bill was 3.5kg MO, 200g pale chocolate, 150g crystal 150 and 200g of torr. wheat.
So frustrating as I want to improve technique but don't know where I'm going wrong!! Any help gents?
