Been to ikea and picked up two of the 'Fantast' digital thermometers I was on about in another post, Its testing as I type, (probe i sat in my new boiler) which I got off ebay, its just like the Brupaks Enamelled Steel Electric Boiler, except mine was £110 cheaper :D

Back to thermometers, you can set a timer on them or use as a thermometer! in thermo mode (cook) you can set a desired temp and it will beep when the desired temp is reached! the cable is rated to 220°C, but the thermo only records upto 130°C. It has a magnet on the rear and a stand that pulls out! for under a fiver I can't moan! it takes one AAA but it doesn't come with one!

Have you compared it to anything yet to see if it is accurate?

29L it looks the same as the Brupaks Enamelled Steel Boiler its also made in germany just like the brupaks one, only difference is mine is with out the words Brupak on it

Just need to put a hop strainer together!!

Two points of comparison can be found by putting it in some boiling water and see if it's near 100 (you'll be struggling as it's not pure H2O, pressure might not be 1000 millibar that day and you might not be at sea level but you can worry about that if you want to or not), then in an ice bath (a glass of ice cubes with water then sloshed around so that as it melts the temperature should hold steady for a while during the change of state) to see if it's near 0.

just popped into ikea to grab on as they seem good value, however it didnt even get to boiling and it was 117c, mmmm think i'll pop back to see what they say.

:hmm: Was it touching the element or somthing that could condut the heat from a element? because if mine were touching the element i rocketed up and same if it touched the walls of the boiler (metal) I've tested mine both same reading, had boiler thermostat set to 50c and they showed 53c.

Seems like the only way is to check against a a calibrated thermometer.

I had three and the difference was upto 3c lowest to highest so unless you're after total accuracy (££££) then roundabouts should be ok. Check against a calibrated dial or mercury type thermometer (borrow one from a school or business if you can)

117C at boiling is a bit too far out though.
