Yesterday morning I was cleaning the house and sorting stuff ready for moving house. Somehow I managed to drop both my 17" MacBookPro and SWMBO's 15" PowerBook down stairs! I dont even know how it happened, I turned to close the stair gate and when I turned back they went!...

SWMBO was very very angry. Think she forgave me when I gave her my wallet to go out shopping.

But aside from some cosmetic damage, does either of them still work, and are they insured?

The screens shattered on the MacBookPro but it did fire up to start with but now its died! The PowerBook wont start.

Try throwing them UP the stairs

Sorry .. and sorry to hear it Dave, hope they are repairable and that you haven't lost too much data and money!

Son and heir buggered his laptop up a few years ago insurance sorted it out double quick and he got a better spec than the one he had 'cos it was out of date :!: Hope you're insured

Bigdave I feel your pain... oh there's more.

Man hope you are insured or if not I can't beleive both got broken in the move and are covered by the insurance you just took out.

I was sober and luckily they are insured.

I spoke to the insurance company yesterday who processed my claim and have passed it on to the claims unit who Im expecting to call me today to give me an absolute grilling.

My Lap top stopped working before Christmas. I had it fixed for £100 (i need it for work). It started to intermittently stop working so I took it back, I was told it was on it last legs and was now shorting out. Got it home worked intermittently , now it has stopped working altogether. Trouble is I now he will refund me, but I'm sure he will try and flog me a new one.

Cheers

AG

Just been on the phone to the insurance company about the computers. after 45 mins of me almost crying about damaging 'my babies' (yes, I did actually refer to them as 'my babies'), he's happy with the claim and is arranging for them to be collected for inspection & then repair/replacement.

If they cant be repaired, they (obviously) will only pay out up to the value theyre listed on the insurance at (£1600 & £1000) so theres probably going to be a short fall but their suppliers only pay trade prices (not retail) so we'lljust have to wait and see.

Does anyone know roughly what the trade prices are on MBP's these days?

Retail depending on spec are from £999-£1,899.

Ta, but its the trade prices I'm after.... Just want to try and work out how much of a short fall there might be.

Dave -

2 places u can look m8

1. Ebuyer.com really good prices on there.
2. You ever been to bowlers at manchester? its behind the trafford centre Jn 9 on the m6 ring i think - i reckon they will have some bargains in the new year.

The insurance company have told me they will send me new machines if mine cant be repaired and that the company who deal with it all get macs at trade discount prices so all I really want to know is what the trade prices are so I; a) dont get ripped off, and b) know how much more this disaster is going to cost me.
