Its a lovely evening here-folks have windows open & washing out. The same old brain donor now decides its time to burn a winters worth of rubbish. Selfish feckers

Thank god I,m not the only one that thinks this is wrong in a residential area, the practice of lighting of bonfires is now an outdated practice that should be banned. All garden waste and household rubbish is now recycled and facilitys are provided for such, put it down to ignorant, inconsiderate neighbours.

+1 BJ

I thought it was illegal to have a bonfire within the hours of 8am to 8pm in BST or it might just be a local by law here?

I suffered for several years with constant dogs barking all day long, bonfire burning, blocking my drive selfish git of a neighbour when we moved here. it came to a head when his dogs suddenly started barking at some horse riders in the lane and a young child was very nearly thrown off when the horse reared up.

I told him what had happened and he stated "its their problem". The Council got us to record everything, every bonfire, times of dog barking etc etc and then contacted him.......

The next thing we had was a solicitors letter threatening US for harassing HIM. So i wrote back explaining the law to his solicitor which is this:

Bonfires/dog barking etc are not illegal in themselves. What is illegal is called "Nuisance" which is anything that unreasonably disturbs you, stops you using your home and garden in normal life, forces you inside to close windows or ANYTHING that causes distress whilst in your home repeatedly over a period of time.

Once you record everything (on paper and or video) and present the evidence to the Environmental Health department as Nuisance they will take over.

They went to see my neighbour and we havnt had a bonfire/dog bark/parking problem since so whatever they said worked.

Hes a local councillor too!

I haven't got anything against it to be honest, the council are useless at waste disposal, they should either do it and have facilities to recycle the lot, or don't bother and take everything you put out.

People who faff about in between stuff really annoy me, either do something, or don't. But don't do a half arsed job.

Fair enough-but they only tend to have bonfires on nice sunny, warm days when everyone else has windows open/washing out-theres a definite pattern

My neighbour is a "white van" driver, he's always picking up stuff at all times of the day and night. He's been banned from the local dump so has started burning all the rubbish he brings back, it can really stink and the smoke gets in all our washing that's out on the line. The police can't do anything about it and the council have told us to keep a diary, its not illegal to have the fires but the smoke is causing a disturbance so he can be fined up to £5000 if he keeps it up.

when the winds in his direction have yourself a bonfire....and pee on it..............

If he puts anything toxic on it they almost certainly can, and should. Many plastics release some nasty doses of carcinogens when burnt

A simple call to the fire brigade about burning plastics and foam will see them out and the problem resolved ;)

The Mrs did this when our neighbour decided to burn 'his' 3 piece suite after his partner left

Don't blame her Tony, some of those suites let off poisonous fumes.

I've got a 5 gallon steel drum I've banged lots of holes in and I sometimes burn wood I have lying about, but I never light it till late on when the neighbours have brought the washing in, I'm always whittling or building something so there's a good supply if off cuts for the fire

beware of steamed tadger!!

So what are the bylaws on barbecues? A good sized grill can give off a lot of smoke - at least as much as a small garden incinerator.

I had this the very first nice day we had this year, i came into the kitchen and could not see my garden, just this white smoke screen, wtf i thought, so i went outside and it was my neighbour, burning old clothes and rubbish, not one metre from there windows, dumb gits, so i popped my head over the fence and shouted, "are you taking the piss?, first nice we have, and your burning ****, she's got her washing out doors down, and your burning ****, why dont u take it to the tip like everyone other normal person" i said.

She says, oh, i'll put it out, so she got the hosepipe and put it out!

Some people are just thick and selfish i find.

I should invent a vaporizing gun!
:D

Where abouts are you in south east London BIGJIM?

I only ask because I too am in south east london, and when I went out last night at about half nine to water the veg pathc I noticed that someone had used my incinerator. the five bar gate at teh back of my garden was open, two watering cans were left there, a jerry can of lawn mower unleaded, and a box of matches. ash had been attempted to be put on my compost bin which is arleady full, so it was put on my pile of grass clippings. I'm amazed that someoen would do this! Tresspass and arson all in one, and it must have been reasonably early as I was home by 7pm and didn't notice it happeneing.

please pm me if you don't want to put details up about exact location. I'll pm you anyway too.

Well done you :thumb: why the hell should you have to shut the windows or choke to death on a fine day because some idiot is to inconsiderate and bone idle to take their crap to the tip, bang out of order and there should be a law against it in a built up residential area.
