Does anyone know where I might be able to get a hydrometer in the Oxford/Banbury area before Xmas?

Larger Tesco's branches are likely to have them. My local one does.

I'm nowhere near you so no local knowledge. I assume you have tried any local homebrew shops. Have you looked in Wilkos? They certainly sell them in some branches. I'd recoommend buying 2 as well, they are easy enough to break, so it is good to have a spare for any brewday mishaps.
