Hydrometer Reading of Conditioned Brew

I'm in the game if not measuring my OG and FG on my brews, perhaps a risky path, but I've never had a problem with the 2-2-2 method for years.

Anyhow, I decided to take the OG of my standard turbo cider this time with the intention of actually working out the alcohol volume which I have never done, but I completely forgot to take the FG and bottled it yesterday and have just realised.

I have never tried it before, but has anyone had any success with taking a reading on a conditioned brew? My head tells me the bubbles will skew the reading but I don't know. I don't really want to pour one in a few weeks time and degas and fill up my tube to measure it and and happy to leave it until next time.

If you are prepared to dump some of your cider, the best way to measure your final gravity is to take out enough cider to measure, and then let it stand for a couple of hours so that the CO2 escapes. This way, your hydrometer will sink to the correct level, not floating any more by way of the CO2 bubbles which cling to your hydrometer.

I thought merely spinning a hydrometer was the method used for removing any bubbles from its surface, which then allowed an accurate reading to be taken.

It is but I imagine after carbonation, more would be forming faster than spinning would dislodge.

I'll tell you what, I'll try both and report my findings. It will be a couple of weeks though.
