Titch , thats a broad statement . Like Huwaei , HTC have been making many of the big name and network branded devices for many years and some of them are anything but great . I have an oldish orange 650 qwerty slde keypad phone and its bloody awful....though the windows OP doesnt help much .
The HTC more recent models have had some good points like the metal frame on the original Desire but now they have made their name they seem to be trading on it by putting out some lesser stuff . As before , much of the problems are down to the operating systems and getting used to them . Its hard to get to know another phone from scratch let alone a handheld computer ....well , I find it so !
Many professional drivers have gone back to the old Nokia 6300 , what I and others consider the peak of mobile tech and usefulness - there is a place in Worcs that sells them in their hands free cradles for under a ton and sells all they can get . I used them for my work and had three - sold them all and regret it deeply . I went to look at phones the other day and was pleased and amused to see a bunch of them that were JUST phones , for making calls , nothing else . Maybe they will have the battery life we all got used to as well . My first Motorola flip in the mid 90s had to be charged every three hours even if not used so carrying 2 or 3 spares was a must and I even had an £800 lithium battery for it that offered a massive 6 hours standby , plus having to carry the multislot huge charger around. We even had them built into our mixing desk flightcases , they were that central to our lives . With the Later Nokias and Panasonic 500s we had up to 2 WEEKS standby and a week of use between charges . Even my Sony Eric camera phones of the last decade were good for a week - imagine my horror at my HTC (my first smartphone) needing charging twice a day and being on the car charger whenever out . I thought it must be a mistake or a bad battery but I was told no , thats how they are .
My hands are too smashed up these days to make the most of these little smartphones and I am too clumsy to maintain a touchscreen as I fall often . So , I reckon its back to a laptop and a basic mobile for me , at least . And HTC , well , buyer beware m, they aint the phones they was .
