how to make brown malt at home?

i wanted to use some brown malt in an upcoming porter recipe. i dont have any on hand but have plenty of malt, and i have this minimally used coffee roaster.

so any tips on making your own brown malt? has anyone used a roaster like this for malt roasting?

Plenty of resources online for this sort of thing. It is best to start with uncrushed malt, as crushed may end up unevenly roasted. This is from an online book that I often refer to. Toasting Your Own Malt - How to Brew

funny i own a couple of versions of that book and forgot to look at it first. thanks for links!

success, although took a bit longer that palmers recommendation. another interesting thing is the husks dont really brown. but the malt inside does so its easy to overdo it.

next up roasting some smoked malt to use in an upcoming rauchbier. or if its good i might throw a handful in the porter.
