If anyone has any tips on this, I guess this is the place to say it.

I just wanted to share my method, which I decided to try. Seems to work very well and the beer is quite drinkable and still has bubbles in it.

I poured the last 2 or 3 pints into a bowl, stopping pouring just before the sediment. Stuck a plate over it and left it to settle overnight in my living room. Then I carefully ladeled it into glasses and drunk it. Clear as a pint of weak tea. Perfectly drinkable.

Maybe I could have then poured it through a funnel into a 2L bottle with an extra half teaspoon of sugar and left it for a few days?

Will try that next time.

hmm

If it works for you, then ok.

I like to clear and fine my beer as much as possible before putting it in the barrel. Otherwise, i would probably just check the last few pints away.

There wasn't much sediment, but there is always some and the nearer to the bottom of the barrel you get the more you upset what little there is on the bottom trying to get it out, which makes the beer cloudy.

I should say that I did drink all of this barrel almost before it was actually technically ready, and was keen to get it checked out and my next brew going (because this one was a bit of a disaster)

Maybe this would not work so well on a more mature brew, but all I can say is that the result was better than I expected, in fact it's the best it has tasted throughout, and the cleanest. Expected it to be a bit off maybe, but no. Going down nicely :drink:

Currently still enjoying and looking foward to some future Nog :drink:

Am I the only person who has ever done this?

Seems logical to me, it's hard to get the last few pints out the barrel. No pointing in wasting any if you don't have to.
