What kind of strength do you aim for in your home brew?

You can select 3 so that should account for if you frequently straddle 2 ranges and also regularly brew a speciality.

my range straddles 3.5 - 5%. mostly the higher end.

running beer is 5.5- 5.9 and then speciality beers are 8-9%.

I don't brew beers for girls

I'll take what I can get though 4.5 % suits me best ........ any more and I get the whisky bottle out :D

Since I only do kits currently, I stay around 3.5-5 range. However I'm looking to do some RIS :D

I normally go for 4.5 to 5 for my day to day running beers but I'm planning on some higher gravity beers to bottle, not that I'm being bullied by one Graysalchemy or anything. :drunk:

4%er here. Can't be having strong ale on a school night!

Bloody 'ell, you school kids grow up quick these days. When I was at school I thought 2 cans of Skol was nirvana.

All over the range, but often strong by accident. I started my American red ale at an OG of 1.055 expecting to end up under 6% but it has attenuated to an FG of 1.008 and still going...

I've only done 3 beer kits so far and they were Coopers Stouts at just over 4% each.

I'm planning on a Mexican Cerveza at a little higher percentage.....probably between 5% and 5.5%

I aim for the 4.6-6.0% range, as its nice to share with my friends who all have different tastes.

Alan

Your average Joe is used to drinking beers just under 5%. Seems a good place to aim so people can manage what they are drinking. Plus the speed I drink at :drink: I'd be on the floor in about an hour if I made them stronger. :drunk: I do plan on making some stronger Belgian beers for next christmas. Looking at the results looks like most people are about the same. Most around 5% but happy to have the occaional 9%er

dont do recipe maths just end up with whatever turns up
never had lower than 3.2% me records 7.2% when me mate was over saying bung some of that in as well with his hand with me grain scoop in it

The resulta have produced a classic "bell curve". I'm right there with the majority at 5ish percent.

most of my kits have come out around 6%ish for some reason but only tend to drink a pint a night
got a wilko kit to do next so going for 4%

As I'm still only kit brewing I'm a tad limited but I aim to play with the sugars or brew a little short or choose my kits to reflect in the region of 4.5% - 5.5%. I'm aiming to reduce the quantity that I drink by making the flavours count... I tend to find that I enjoy my brews more and drink less than bought beers. Of course I may be kidding myself...
