Im going for my first 23ltr extract clone this weekend and I only have a 17ltr boil pot.

How much water should I use to steep grains and bring to boil for the rest of the clone?

I'm assuming its OK to make a small(er) boil and then add cold water to make up the volume? Wouldnt this also help with the cooling of the wort etc :wha:

I hope this is doable otherwise Im stuffed!!

Help guys

OK, well this is what I had planned to do:

I was going to boil 2 gallons of water and place in the fv to cool

Then steep the grains in a further 3 gallons, remove grains, bring to boil and add the rest of the goodies at the set times etc

Cool the wort and then add to the existing 2 gallons in the FV and pitch the yeast etc etc

What say you?

your in luck , this is perfect for extract brewing ,try to leave a good 3 inches from top of pan and watch out for boil over , just make sure you add more hops as boiling less liquid then adding water later reduces the hop rate

Have a "skooshy" spray bottle with cold water on standby in case of boil overs.

Thanks Kev :thumb:

Pittsy, it calls for 19grams of A and 27grams of B at start of boil then 15 grams of A at 45mins (60min boil).

What do you think I should up these to?
