hi just brewed a stout and i'm ready to keg it, it's a 40 pints edmes stout kit. how much priming sugar? i also have a little bit of pray malt which i'm going to add with the sugar and i'm guessing spray malt has the same sugaryness to weight ratio as sugar?

I made a spreadsheet to calculaute this as it changes all the time. If you message me your email I will send it to you.

BUT here is the way you work it out

1/2 tsp sugar per 500ml is a good amount to add

Sugar (tsp) = Volume (Litres) x 0.5

so 40 Litres = 20 tsp

1 tsp sugar = 4.2g

sugar (g) = tsp x 4.3

so 20 tsp = 84g

now if we want to use DME, its the same WEIGHT as sugar, but because it has a different dencity, a different number of teaspoons. Not sure on the conversion factor, but again 84g will be good.

To use LME (easy to get a small pot from health food shops, but DO NOT get cod liver oil flavoured) you want to use more than DME. Simple calculation:

1 tsp sugar = 1.5 tsp LME

You dont do a weight conversion again beecause of difference in dencity between the two.

20 tsp sugar = 30 tsp LME

i find it easier to dole out LME in tsp rather than by volume, but for the hell of it:

1 tsp = 4.9 ml

30 x 4.9 = 147 ml

As I said earlier things change all the time. Sometimes I brew 10l, sometimes 15, sometimes 23, 25 etc... Also it depends what I want to use for priming.

Just do the maths and go away, or use a spreadsheet.
