iv,e just started my new brew milestones black pearl, and i was wandering how much priming sugar should i use, i was going to use 150 grams, but im not sure if this would be to much.

thanks for any advice i can get  andy.

There are many free priming calculators, both online and for mobile devices, eg. Brewzor for Android phones.

Brewzor says for 23 litres @22C and carbonation to 2 vol. CO2 it would be 104 grams of plain white sugar. With 2 vol. beer will be mildly carbed, without much fizz.

Interested to know more about the "2 vol co2". What's this mean? How can we tell how much we want ideally?

Cheers

It's 2 volumes of CO2 in 1 volume of liquid, eg. 1 litre in 50cl. After fermentation beer has some natural carbonation, it's ~1 vol. at 15C, less in higher temp.

Some fairly standard carbonation volumes are eg.:
cask ales 1.0-1.5
bottled british ales 2.0-2.2
German bocks, east european baltic porters 2.3
German standard lagers, American ales 2.5
eurolagers 2.6-2.7
Belgian strong ales 2.7
Weissbiers 2.9 or more

BeerSmith database has accurate measures.
